CITY CENTER. In 1916, this museum opened to exhibit various representations of 20th century art. In 1936, the Gestapo forced the establishment to close. It wasn't until 1948 that the doors could re-open to the public. The gallery is now located in the former Goseriede Baths. It contains numerous displays that cover over five thousand years of European history. Ancient Roman glassware, ancient Egyptian relics, and antique coins are included in the diverse exhibits.

CITY CENTER. Examples of national and international contemporary art are displayed in this museum. Feature exhibits change frequently, offering variety to local art enthusiasts. The "Herbstausstellung," or Autumn Exhibition, is a popular showcase that is held every two years. Guided tours are available on Sunday afternoons.

SÜDSTADT. Four distinct sections of this museum display numerous artistic, archeological, and ethnological pieces that cover a period of nine centuries. The Lower Saxony picture gallery contains works by such renowned artists as Rembrandt and Botticelli. Educational and geological information is provided in the Nature Department. Swamp discoveries from the Iron Age are included in the prehistoric department. And the folklore department illustrates cultural aspects from various places around the world.

CITY CENTER. This collection of carpets belonging to collector Dr. Amir Pakzad is on the fifth floor of the Basse House. The carpets showcased cover a period of five centuries. Many of the objects displayed come from places such as Afghanistan, Russia, China, and India.

SÜDSTADT. This museum is dedicated to works of contemporary art created by various nationally and internationally renowned artists. Picasso, Beckmann, and Chagall are all represented here. The interactive psychedelic display in the James Turrell Room is a sure way to excite any visitor's senses.
